Art Specifications and Help

Art should follow the following guidelines unless otherwise specified:

  • Files should be PDFs

  • 0.125” bleeds when needed (when anything extends to the trim box)

    • Note that quotes need to account for jobs that bleed! Adding bleeds often costs extra.

  • 0.125” margin (all important text and images should be 0.125” in from the trim box)

  • No printer’s marks necessary, no impositioning

  • Exported as pages, not spreads

  • Booklets/books should be sent in the order that they are read (front cover, inside cover, page 1, etc)

When designing, Select “File” and then turn on “Show rulers and guides,” “Show margins,” and “Show print bleed” when designing (see figure C1). This will make it easier to see where to place everything as you design your print piece. Note that the trim area, not the bleed. is what is at 0 on the rulers.

If you have a piece that does not bleed (most everything is within the save area and nothing extends to the trim box) you can leave “Show print bleed” off.

Once your design is finished, click “File,” “Download,” then set the file type to “PDF Print.” Make sure to select “Crop marks and bleed” before downloading (Figure C2).
